The SAPS SOP is an important instruction in ensuring that LGBTI people – whether victim or perpetrator – get treated with dignity and have their rights upheld. This is obviously important information for police but it is also critical that people working in communities know what instructions the police have to abide by. This knowledge helps police and community members know what to expect. The introductory video has provided you with an overview and purpose of the SOP. The rest of this module will take you through the critical elements of the SAPS STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE TO RESPECT, PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE RIGHTS OF LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER, INTERSEX + (LGBTI+) PERSONS including: Session Two: Understanding Definitions, acronyms and abbreviations Session Three: Interaction with LGBTI+ Persons Session Four: Roles and Responsibilities Session Five: End of module survey This module consists of self-reading, videos and quizzes to test your knowledge. People who complete all the material and quizzes and the end of course survey will get a certificate of completion. We suggest that you print out a copy of the SOP and refer to it when working through the sessions.
